Chef Billy Joe’s passion for the kitchen began at a young age. Growing up in West Texas, he would watch as his mother fed his family with ingredients from the family garden. Everything was from scratch; nothing went to waste. At the age of 15, he started working in restaurants and worked his way up through the ranks. After graduating college, he accepted his first executive chef job with Interior Mexican cuisine in Abilene, Texas.
Five years later, he moved to Austin to focus on vegan and vegetarian cuisine. During this time, he began to study different styles and methods of cooking. He continued to study Asian and Italian cuisine. His love for elevating southern cuisine led him to open his own restaurant in Austin, Texas.
After much success, it was time to move forward and seek more culinary knowledge. He has since landed in Port Aransas as the Executive Chef/Owner of Billy Joe’s Craft House. For the last five years he’s continued to push the limits on Southern Style Cuisine with local Texas sourced ingredients.
