Although, I am now a Texas girl, I was born and raised in Chicago, IL, I’ve been a professional chef for almost 13 years, with a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu, but I have been cooking since I was 7. I realized early in childhood, being surrounded by so many wonderful cooks in my Sicilian family, that ingredients, food and its preparation would be an integral part of my foundation. Somehow I knew, even back then, that food would forever be part of my world.
I had the pleasure and pain of owning two restaurants early on in my career, and lost both for very different reasons. Many people would call it failures, I call them successes. They too have given me the experience and understanding, of what this industry is about and what it takes to appreciate this industry as a Chef as well as a guest. It’s truly a humbling experience. Now I am the proud owner of A La Mode Gelateria on North Padre Island. In our 2 ½ years of operation we have received more accolades than I could have every hoped for. We have even been invited to compete in this year’s World Gelato Tour in Dallas.
I started competing in food sport 5 years ago. In my very first year, I was a sous chef in the recipe category and our team earned a Top 10 win and trip to the final table. In 2014, I was chosen as the Kenmore Cookmore 1st place winner in pasta and therefore, competed in the Pasta Category, and in 2015 I was informed that my Santorini Burger won Kenmore Cookmore 1st place in the Burger Category! In 2016 and 2017 I placed in the Top 10 in the recipe category. I’m gunning for a win this year!
